A question for the collective wisdom of the forum regarding how much parts are worth.
I have amassed a huge pile of parts (mostly used) during various rebuilds and have just been given a huge number of parts from a friends who no longer has land rovers but had kept all the parts he had amassed. I do not have the storage to keep all of it so am ruthlessly going through and sorting into the three keep, sell, throw away piles.
My question is how do you value second hand parts?
Space is the premium so I cannot just store until they sell. And I have parts that I have tried to sell for a fraction of what others are asking on eBay that still haven’t sold. But another part of me hates to throw these things away and someone somewhere should have a use for them.
How do people get rid of parts is it just throw them away, sell as job lots, try and give away? Is there less demand for second hand parts these days as they move more into the classic car category from the keep it running catagory?

I have the same issue - loads of "stuff" that I don't want, but is worth "something" however selling it is, literally, more trouble than it's worth.

Even giving it away for free on Facebook takes time, to photograph, list, communicate, wait in, etc etc.

So it remains here. Cluttering up the place.

In the end, most of it will just go to the scrap yard, and, a week later, I'll need some part or other that I just scrapped.

If you are going to 4x4 autojumble the silly little parts sell them for a £1. Bought quite a few things for the 2a when we had that from Newbury. Mostly from the same person, did buy some larger priced things from him also.
Would rather buy a good 2nd original part than a cheap new part which will turn to crap in a few months.

Me too I have loads of pens and worn down pencils.😟😮‍💨 Why not drop the used parts in a bin bag for Landrover Concern charity shop when passing.🙃

It will all be in the part number, most LR owners are saddos and will research the part they need, and when they find the part number that is what they will search for, well that is what i do!
Do not forget even the most useless looking part is wanted by someone somewhere.

If you do the research you might find some gems amongst the clutter.

PS got a fan shroud for a 90 200tdi?

When selling parts, presentation is everything. Clean them to death. Calipers for instance: dismantle, clean the pistons, remove springs, check for cracks. Check and clean the sliders, red rubber grease. If they have good pads, de-rust and scrub. Check the bleed nipples and the banjo bolts, make sure the threads are clean. Then scrub the whole body clean of muck and fluid. Don’t repaint, let buyers see the things are utterly genuine. A dusting of silicon spray will smarten it up. THEN you can charge a really good price and be confident that the buyer will be content. Have a look at the new prices and charge accordingly. Oh, and take ample photos, honest ones. I think eBay allows 12 per listing.

I am not at that level of sale. If it needs that much work to sell it will free to collect and if not collected will be scrapped. My eBay complaint was pairs of vent flaps. I have ended up with 3 pairs of them. On eBay used for £60-75. I can’t sell of £20.
I may try a job lot and if no one is interested will just throw away, the garage is bordering on unworkable with the amount of stuff in there now after the lot from my friend.

Make a list up and post it on here
