Consider heated screens and mirrors, an M57 BMW engine, and Wright off road matting. Road bias radial tyres will help.

I've used my 88 diesel (1970) as my daily driver for the last thirteen years.
It wears out and occasionally breaks down, but I just nail it back together.
Does the charm of driving a series wear thin ?
Well not with me it doesn't.
Still puts a smile on my face as I trundle away from my house every morning.
But I think I should point out that I'm a very rough person, I hate luxury.
As for fuel consumption I think about 25 overall.
Not brilliant but I can live with it

How long is your commute, how fast are the roads, and how many pedestrians stare at you as you conspicuously bumble along?

How long is your commute, how fast are the roads, and how many pedestrians stare at you as you conspicuously bumble along?
Only five and a half miles, which isn't much I admit, maximum 50mph speed limit, which I've probably never managed to break, not many pedestrians stare anymore, I pass them too regularly, and the novelty has long worn off, they just think "here comes that idiot in the noisy mobile tent"
Some following drivers seem to noticeably back off.
Perhaps they are worried that something will fall off and hit their car.
Others are relentless tailgaters.
I slow down accordingly just to **** them off.
I regularly pass a light blue Austin Gipsy, travelling in the opposite direction, which some intrepid soul also seems to be using as their daily transport.
