The brackets that came with it look don't quite substantial enough, so I'll probably make some myself out of thicker material and anchor it in some other places too to secure it.

Its got an 80% Approval stamp for pedestrian damage - you need a Discovery wrap around type bull bar to achieve 100%.

My factory rubber/plastic A bar has 2 brackets mounted on the top of the 'bumper' as shown in this pic...

They poke through holes in the plastic bumper/valance and there's reasonably substantial bolts securing the A Bar to them. Not shown in the pic are 2 brackets at the bottom on the A Bar that go through slots towards the bottom on the bumper/valance and are secured to 2 of the bolts supporting the undertray. These brackets are not very substantial.

Was wondering if you know the part numbers/where to find the bolts that hold the bumper to the car? I'm planning on taking mine off and know that quite are few are rounded off so will need drilling out and need replacing

No sorry. Most of the fixings are metal clips that go over the inside piece of plastic with screws that go through. There are a couple of plastic scrivets as well in the center. If you can't find actual part numbers and the 'real' parts for these, I would have thought very similar items can be found at a hardware shop.
 
*Update*
Some of you may have seen my other thread about the knocking on my Freelander, turned out to be shot ARB drop links, split centre prop bearings and split rubber in centre diff mount, prop bearings had to be cut off to remove them... got all that changed for a princley sum of £400...I would have been alright to do the ARB drop links and diff mounting but trying to do the prop bearings this time of year I don't think I would've managed it...so as they had it all off anyway got them to do the lot, but its all done now and all knocking has stopped, feels like a new car, so I deem it worth it :rolleyes:

Had a very Freelander-y weekend....
Went to a scrap yard and found a '98/99 Freelander in there in pretty good condition and hadn't been too stripped by other people yet (don't think it had been there long), that was until I got my hands on it....
  • I've now got all new rear lights (it was an older Freelander 1 so the tail lights are orange and red instead of the red and clear, but I think I prefer that colouring), one of the brake lights was out and it wasn't the bulb, so it must've been a connection, but now I have a whole spare set should I need it, and the main lights weren't in the best condition in mine anyway so was nice to change them. Drilled a small hole in the bottom of the lights too because they tended to fill up with a bit of water, so helps that to drain out.
  • New sun visors (mine were a bit grotty...).
  • Got a spare set of indicator stalks and a lot of fuses in case they are needed.
  • Some new switches (changed only because of condition and wear, so now have 2 sets, all working should I need them).
  • Changed one of the bulbs that was out behind the instrument cluster, took all the other bulbs out of the scrapped one so now got some spares too
  • New gear knob (previous one was held together with electrical tape).
  • HDC is working, turns out it was user error, I wasn't pressing the switch right , didn't realise it had to be slid down :oops: but tried it out on one of the particularly muddy hills on one of the greenlanes and it works a treat, the car got me up it again too which I wasn't expecting, but very pleased about.
  • Generally cleaned out the interior as I had all the switched out etc because it was a bit grimey, now it's absolutely sparkling...It's amazing what some WD40 and some baby wipes can do...
  • Had the roof off all day yesterday, and whilst it was up greased up the seals a bit to stop the creaking and now it doesn't make a sound, and was quite fun driving it around roof-less :cool:.
 
£400 for that lot seems good value! :) Wish we had decent breakers near me: would be great to do as you have and pick up some useful spares for the future! :)
 
Sounds like Christmas all over again grabbing bits off the car in the breakers :) Did you get any of the clips and screws for the bumper :) If they weren't all rusted up.
Thats a thought actually, got all the screws out of the interior and completely forgot about the bumper ones...o_O it had it's wheels off and was sitting in a bit of a bog, the front bumper was off but other than that bodywork was in very good condition, if I'm down there again sometime soon I'll have a look;)
 
Some more from last weekend - had to turn around in a gap about half a foot wider than the length of the car on one of the lanes, someone had to been kind enough to block the end of the public byway off with a block of concrete...was a bit treacherous wit a ditch full of leaves so really didn't want to get stuck in that - had a winch with us but it needed a tree to anchor itself onto and there weren't any about at this point on the lane.

I do like the modular wheel style, but didn't get them in the end as they're not hub-centric. Mounting rings are available from ebay - not sure if anyone has used them?

Happy with my current tyres though :)

I used them once but not with modulars, they seemed to do the job well.
 
*UPDATE*
Had a bit of a calamity this weekend, drove to Swindon from Oxford, gear change was getting more and more difficult. Arrived in Swindon, parked up and checked the master cylinder reservoir, low and behold it's empty...great... after a trip to Halfords to get some dot 4, we managed to perform a very crude clutch bleed in the car park... air was coming out with each pump and the existing fluid in it had gone a questionable colour - it was a matter of keep doing it till its full enough to get home (I have RAC but id rather not have to wait if it can be helped). It was a bit of a perilous drive home to say the least, couldn't use 1st and could hold the car still when it was in gear because the clutch pedal was just progressively doing less and less. Managed to get it home, and the fluid was trickling out.
It had had a recent new master cylinder fitted with a previous owner not too long ago, and it doesn't look too bad. So fantastic news that it's a slave cylinder that needs doing (as I've read they're incredibly easy to get at, only requires the removal of a gearbox...):confused:.
I've ordered a new slave and whole clutch kit as I'm at it, not sure about flywheel, I'll see what it's like when I'm down there.
Hoping to do this on Saturday and will take some pictures that may hopefully be of use to someone else planning on doing the same job.
Wish me luck...
