This is just my opinion but I and I ain't a land rover expert think they ****ed the new defender. The company is like social justice warriors eco this electric than. If only could they not make a live axel defender no/ min electronics pull 3.5 ton big diesel engine tuns of torque good price they would sell millions of units. The photos I have seen under show independent suspension air bags it looks like a disco 5. It will fail christ could they not make it like the shape of a g wagon they cost something like £125000 . What do yous think?

First ditch the word Defender and tack on the word Expensive toy. If they have a address the historical leak over the passengers and driver it not a Defender.

Nah they wouldn’t as all people want land rovers for nowadays is to pose in outside school at pickup time.
Your basically describing the old defender which was canned on safety grounds. People buy jap or ford pickups now for the same type of work a defender did

The original series and the defender was produced to fill a niche in the market.
That no longer exists, so the company is producing a new vehicle whilst carrying on the name.
BMW did it with mini brand and VW with the beetle.
JLR will produce a vehicle and call it a Defender

I think the niche still exists, particularly for utilities. Someone will fill the gap - if they can get some military sales they may even make money at it.
And lets not forget how unreliable, thirsty, costly to run, dangerous, maintenance needy and basically crap the old prehistoric Defender actually is.

Trouble is military vehicles are going the way of the armoured stuff now in use, so 4x4 utility stuff will eventually not be needed I reckon as it won’t be up to snuff at protecting our troops. Those same armoured vehicles have literally nil applications in the civi world so you would need to produce a vehicle for one or the other need but not be able to produce one vehicle to do both, a niche the defender (and predecessors) did so well.

I can't wait to see it, I think it'll be good. Things have moved on, jlr have to be seen as eco friendly and environmentally conscious cuz that's what matters to consumers now. It'll be the most capable vehicle in its class. It will be available with coil springs according to reports so all these out back, overlanding types will be able to take a tricked up one with a tent, spare tyre and 75litres of fuel on the roof to the arse end of nowhere to defecate in a hole.
No car firm on earth is selling anything like the old defender as a new vehicle. Even the jap pick ups have changed to be more comfortable and driver friendly. Okay they've got a live rear axle but is that really the be all and end all? The old defender lost out to the jap stuff cuz they were simply better at being user friendly.
I'm a big LR fan, I've owned freelander, discos and a defender. I know it's not the done thing to like what they're doing but I do and I like everything they build now and I can't wait to see it

It has the contours of a Jeep Renegade. I wish they kept the classic styling of the original but I'm not their target audience.

What theyve done is built a Defender that will sell millions. I love mine and i can fix where ever I need to. But lets face it no one is doing London to Cape Town in the mew fender. No one does it now in the old one

I totally agree that diesel is on the way out and it's not 1980...I just liked the styling of the original Defender...I said nothing about the engine or fuel type.
Diesel is on the way out? I guarantee it's not until they get there fighter jets to run on batteries. You make any 4 wd run on batteries put 3.5 ton on the back let's see how long it will run for miles wise. Or it may go on fire with the amp draw or have very thick cable 20mm . I may be wrong but I think the new defender will be a flop. You can get the the l Land Serwis any engine you want and a Galvin chassis

Big engines produce larger amounts of emissions. More eggspensive to tax and run. Smaller engines with modern technology are cheaper ter run and still produce the same power.
The vehicle yer has seen is a test vehicle only. It is testing technology. There is nothing on it that says it is the final design. It may look like it but may not be it. LR do like ter have a laff at the public.
Independent suspension is used ter help keep all wheels on the ground when cross axled. Started with the Freelander and continued with all models after this.
If they made the style of tratter yer describe they wouldn't sell millions. Think about how many base level biscuit tin tratters were sold per year. Demand isn't that high for a shed ont wheels.
Air bags may be available as an option. Eye would be surprised if they were standard fit. Dun't forget the US market which likes air bags s a target market for the new build.
The eco bit is required to make them more efficient. Yer won't be able to build new vehicles with 80's diesels fitted, chuckin out coal dust from the eggsauce.

Very true. LR's ain't bomb proof and the military want ter pay about £15k ter 15.5k for the old tratter when LR sold them to the public fer £23k. They won't eggscept that price drop anymore.
