Hi all,
Dumb question time again - sorry!
Along with many thousands of other people during this lovely British summer time, I have had the problem of flooded roads. I know its no Defender but whats a safe depth of water to attempt in a 1.8 petrol SWB?
I dont have a handbook & not had the car a week yet so not sure of its capabilities (I read on the web its 400mm) but its going to be a damn sight better than my old Porsche!
I hear the heavy rain is due to return at the weekend!! :mad:

It's not only the depth but the speed you go through it. Speshly with a petrol injun.

A lot of the complaints round these parts were of dickhead 4X4 drivers off like fook causing bow waves that were flooding peoples houses as they were trying to sweep the water out. Another own goal fer 4X4ers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
The owners handbook mentions wading, recommends covering radiator grill with plastic sheet to prevent crap getting in there. Doesnt mention prolonged driving through deep water - I would say beware and dont over estimate its capability. Incidentally, check eBay for owners portfolios/handbooks as they can be picked up quite cheap.

Aye, you aint wrong, come to think of it there was something about removing the multi changer....not forgetting testing the brakes when you come out the other side.
 
You live in Rotherham also? I earnt a fair few quid last time it flooded pulling wetnecks out tho thought their motors were amphibious!!!

Im getting ready for more flooding, extra sealent on the snorkel etc Cant wait, its just the poor bastards whose houses that're gonna be wrecked i feel sorry for.
 
Yeah, well Mexborough actually. You couldnt get in or out of here Mon night / Tues morning without going through at least a foot of water.

You are right though, some pepole have REALLY suffered & are still doing so & with more of the wet stuff promised over the w/end it wont get better overnight.

I just want to know if it does get bad again, I can get home. Im not intentionally going looking for it.
 
My units at kilnhurst/rawmarsh, near ABS transport, my unit was 12inch under :(

Ive got some quality vids from going up and down under the tunnel, you might've seen me or my landy actually, blue with black doors??
 
I believe 400mm is the official. During the recent flood in Sheffield we we're wading a least 500-600mm without problem to get to our house, keep up the revs and don't bottle out half way! If figured the Suzuki GV in front made it through so could I. Mines got 17" wheels so suppose it might handle a little more.

Most of the vital stuff is pretty high up in the engine but I suspect the petrol perhaps more vulnerable than a diesel. Saying that, the last thing you want to do it water log a diesel.

I'm always a little concerned at cracking the rad in cold water. Currently the front of mine has pond weed hanging out the front!

If it keeps raining like this in Sheffield we all need snorkles fitting!
