No, just got back from a good drive but the tapping still there unfortunatelyany joy?
Ollie (the guy @boguing recommended) had a quick listen yesterday when I was picking up the exhaust part and wasn’t a 100% what it was but seems to think something to do with gearbox area!!mmmm see if it was a 300TDI i would be saying head gasket as it vibrates through the bulkhead and can sound like its coming from the gearbox - but with the TD5 i am not sure.

No not really... and that would make sense as it seems to sound more frequent as the speed increase! haven’t had a passenger try and listen, but that’s a good idea.Oh, should have said clutch thrust bearing failing in a weird way, but you say the pedal makes no difference.
Hadn’t thought about checking the prop shafts... getting under there later today and have a good look!It does sound like something lose rattling about, jubilee clip on either of the prop shafts?
Never a bad thing to check the oil level, but I can't see that would be the noise source
