I have been looking to buy my first 4x4 (second hand) and had settled on the
Nissan Terrano.
Whilst looking around for a reasonable SWB I have come across a lot more
Mavericks, especially petrol versions (everybody wants diesel). As the price
of the equivalent maverick seems to be cheaper. I was wondering the
following, and would appreciate advice from anyone owning a Maverick
1 Are they made by Nissan or Ford
2 Is the petrol version worth considering
3 Are the parts interchangeable with Nissan (which begs the question-which
are cheaper)
4 Generally with the maverick or terrano, what are the weak points to look
out for buying second hand.
THANKS IN ADVANCE-TIM

I'm not familiar with either but ISTR that people have posted here in the
past talking of gearbox problems. Try googling the group to see if anything
turns up.

If the price is right and it suits your purpose.

Exactly the same mechanically. Some trim differences.

Pre intercooled versions had gearbox problems which are expensive to
fix. Symptoms include a deep rumble in some gears under load. This
problem is unrelated to maintenance history or whether the vehicle has
been towing extensively. It can happen to Auntie Mabel's.
Having said this, the problems are quite insignificant compared to
some rival vehicles.

Same vehicle: different badge. Built by Nissan in Spain they have a superb
but thirsty turbodiesel engine: the rest of the vehicle is crap. I just
sold a one year old one and lost a fortune as no-one, quite rightly, wants
them. Try using full lock: sounds like it will disintegrate.

Don't agree, had mine for about three years, other than usual wear and
tear items it has performed brilliantly. Tows exceptionally well, better
than Discovery, somebody commented when driving it. Make sure that
during the major service, when the oil in the rear diff is chaged, that
limited slip diff oil is used else this will make a bad noise when
cornering
