Hi everybody,

I have a D2 and a Defender both 2000 TD5’s, the D2 has an issue with the tensioner making noise. I’ve fitted a new belt and tensioner, made no difference and also swapped new tensioner with the defender, works fine on the defender but not the D2. I’ve checked the belt length (1820 for TD5 with ACS no AC) and all matches. Any ideas??

Thanks.

I have disco td5 with aircon and ace which had a rattle from the belt tensioner. Rattle disappears when belt removed and all pumps alternator etc rotate freely. The rattle appears to be the tensioner hitting its stop so replaced tensioner and belt with quality replacements, no change.
Did a bit of research and found most suppliers supply belt 7pk1870 for my application. This belt is 1870mm long but can be 1872mm long and longer when stretched. But also listed is 7pk1867 which is 1867mm long and can be 1865mm long. 3mm doesn't seem much difference but after fitting a 7pk1867 no more rattle and belt appears to be less wobbly when running ie less deflection in tensioner. I assume that there will be alternative, slightly shorter, belts for td5s without aircon or ace or both.
Hope this helps.

Had a quick look and there is a 7pk1817 which again is 3mm shorter than 7pk1820 which may help. It would appear the earlier 10p td5 d2 take the shorter belt.
