I've just bought a Freelander which I'm due to pick up next week. I already have a car which I'm looking to sell as soon as possible so would like to know the best option for insurance.

I'm not sure if I need temporary insurance on the Freelander or a complete brand new policy? I guess having a temporary policy means I can eventually change the vehicle on my existing policy without having to pay the penalty for an early cancellation.

My existing car is insured with Adrian Flux who I have rang but couldn't really get a helpful answer.

I borrowed a mates E class 3 litre merc for a trip up north and insured it daily through ecar insurance.
Worked out at around £10 a day
A tenner a day could work out expensive as I need a bit of work done on the other car, could be up to a month before I shift it.

Someone said I could get temporary cover on an additional car for around £100 a month, still a bit over the odds but better than taking out a brand new policy I suppose.

There are three options - a)a separate short term policy for the Freelander; b) a temporary additional vehicle (TAV) to your existing policy to add the Freelander, c) insure the Freelander for a year on a separate policy
You ought to get quotes for all three ( and for options a and c not just from Flux), and you also need to know from your existing insurer what will happen when you sell your current car and terminate your current policy - the return premium might be so low it might be cheaper to run the insurance on suitably amended to cover the Freelander.

Hiya,

Please feel free to pm me your policy number and a contact telephone number, so I can get this looked into for you and I will ask someone to call you.

Thanks
Dan

Thanks, good advice and will check some other insurers/brokers too.

You can get policy's that cover just 28 days, cost me £80 ish quid last time.
Well I hunted around and it was cheapest to go for the TAV on my existing Adrian Flux policy. I was getting quotes on other sites for £25 until I realised that was for just one day, the best I could get elsewhere for 28 days was around £240
Adrian Flux bettered that by some margin but when I was quoted £400 for a whole years insurance it does make temporary insurance seem mad
