Temperature sensor cable (300Tdi)

The cable into the temperature sensor on the top of the engine (multi-pin) is routed around the back of the engine and enclosed in a heat protecting conduit. This conduit has melted (it had been pulled against the exhaust outlet pipework) and subsequently broken, though the two core wire appears undamaged. I'm assuming this needs to be kept safe :)

I've attached a couple of pics in case these make my ramblings more coherent!

I can't see where the cable goes to so I'm assuming I can't just replace the whole cable (even if that were necessary).

Couple of questions
1) Could I break into this wire and insert an additional length so that it was not pulled so tight?

2) Any ideas for a replacement conduit to use? What's the temperature in this area of the engine?

you could, however, you don't need the egr on the 300tdi.. which is what that sensor is for.

personally i'd cut it off and blank/remove the egr :)

Nothing to stop you inserting a piece of similar wire to extend what u have, just solder and sleeve the joints. There's flexible conduit available on e.bay, get the black split stuff easer to fit in your situation something like 8mm ID will do fine.

I've used it with some additional wiring and it is engine bay heat resistant I but not when laying on an exhaust pipe so tie it to an existing cable loom easy to do when warmed by the engine heat.

That's v interesting - the egr was removed before I bought the vehicle, so maybe that's why the previous owner wasn't overly concerned about the sensor getting knackered!

300tdi came with edc (fly by wire) or egr. iirc edc were usually in later auto's.

you know what yours is? take a pic of your engine inc pump if unsure :)
