Hi there my 1989 90 had a digital temp gage in it when I bought it that glowed blue and blinded me at night

so I’ve had it taken out and an analog original put in but when the spark connected it it just went to max temp off the scale and the cars not even been started.

the auto spark ( term used lightly although he is qualified ) scratched his head And said %#~<%~ knows

any ideas

Ok I’ve another one there I will try that

Or, it is the wrong temp sensor for the unit, as at some point they were different for the earlier engines, and it is a known issue that thye give high reading on different guages. If you reconnect the digital one does it still work?

Cheers

It’s the correct temp for the car not got the digi one to hand, I thought ( from zero experience) that there would be a difference in the wiring from the engine to the gage for digi and analog ?

is your profile pic the current landy ?

if so i would think it has a 200 tdi in it, given placement of snorkel, if its connected mind you.

A pic under the bonnet would help.

Normally gauge comes with a sender for that gauge in teh box.

Would suggest a new gauge, buy a good one a smith or one of the other reputable ones not some cheap chinese thing of the bay

If you didn’t replace the temp sender with the one designed for the gauge you have just fitted, then I’m not sure what you expected to happen? Not all gauges will work with all senders. You need to spur the correct gauge to the correct sender. Take for instance the 300TDI, the Discovery engine sender doesn’t work the Defender gauge, not properly anyway.

Google the part number you have for the gauge, and see if a sender pops up for it. Order it and fit it (make sure it’s the correct thread for the gauge hole).
