TD5 wastegate stuck?

Been quoted £38+vat to have he manifold skimmed which seems reasonable, also ordered some Wurth bolts.

Is this the compensation you mentioned?

that's actually a good price maybe I need to send my manifiold to you plus postage and return in the long run for me it will work out cheaper austrialia is FOOOOKED when it comes to landrover even some mechanic works shops that deal with landrover engines try and point you in the wrong direction ....reason being the need work as time is money

I never seen that vid before but yes an injector or injectors can compensate but bearing in mind they also receive a signal from the ECU and the ECU needs to a signal from sensors
I have seen many sensors fail in many ways

Hi there

If I was you I would take the chip box off of you're Land Rover, that's prob why it's smoking.. My mate had one on his td5 and it buggered the engine in the long run
 
No I don't and still to this day believe it was that chip... It over fuelled and bent a con rod
 
We've probably done this thread now but with regards to the smoking and perceived lack of power I wonder if this is related to the warped manifold and I'm chasing my tail a bit?

i would also be amazed LOL
many chase there tail without doing basic checks first or by passing things that have been mentioned
 
Just to add another bit of experience. One of the bolts holding the EGR blanking plate on my manifold snapped last Christmas and exhaust gas was leaking into the engine compartment. I noticed a lack of power and lower top speed. So if there's not a good seal between manifold and block this will take your power down. The engine bay rapidly become coated in soot and I think it was running a bit rich because a trip that usually costs me £30 of fuel cost nearer £40. So if the manifold isn't perfectly gas tight it might affect the amount of smoke too. Maybe the ECU isn't seeing the revs or the boost it would 'expect' for a given fuel input so increases the fuelling.

Well, I did notice it, it just took a little while for me to mend it. It wasn't particularly noisy, it just made a more farty sort of sound. In fact I noticed the head was missing off one of the bolts before the exhaust note changed. As the bolts were pan head Allen screws they're made out of very tough material, so I was awaiting the arrival of some cobalt drills and an angle drive to get the stumps out. The plate was still on, but the exhaust was blowing out of one side. In the event, I succeeded in retapping the holes in situ, so we were all screwed up nice and tight very soon.
