Help, this Disco is the first turbo i've had so i know very little about them. En route to my brothers yesterday, couple of miles out i lost power on acceleration , I coaxed it in the last couple of miles and left it for the day. Fired it up for the return journey, engine sounded sweet :) but had a slight tinkley scrapey noise from turbo side of engine bay. Set off home keeping revs low and staying below 40/45 mph, fine for twenty mins then a cloud of smoke like something from Iceland came from the exhaust. I pulled into a service station and got recoverd home. Any help or pointing in the right direction would be great.

Ok if you remove the boost pipe from the turbo to intercooler check that the comressor turbine
1. rotates/spins should be able to get your fingers to it
2. check for signs of the turbine touching the sides of compressor housing
3. excesive movement in turbine shaft small amount is normal but if it touches the housing its to much.
4. Check turbine blades for damage its normally quite obvious if there damaged

Hope this helps Mike

Done all that, sadly turbo appears to have expired as there's about 5mm of play side to side and the vanes are fouling the housing . I see you're in maldon, know anywhere localish who can exchange / recon it or anyone i can trust to sent it away to ? I've seen a few on ebay but you never know.

Cheers for your help.

Have sourced a salvaged turbine and fitted it today ( 150 notes ) been for a quick run round the block and all seems fine, with the exeption of some smoke from the exhaust. I'm asuming this is from oil that's found it's way past the turbo and into the intercooler.
I'll go for a blast down the a12 after work to check all is well. thanks again mike.

Sorry i missed your prevous post i don't get on my puta every day glad its all sorted though, the smoke should clear after a while if the replacment turbo is ok, its probably just the oil in the exhaust burning off.
Ive got the no. of a couple of good turbo people if you need one in the future.

Hopefully i won't need another one for a while, i'll add you to my contacts just in case.
Been driving her for a few days now and smoke is all but gone.
Thanks again

Hi Graham

It's been awhile since this post. Did you find the new turbo or expert locally? I'm in Coggeshall, so would be great to find one close by. Did the replacement turbocharger last long?
