Hi all.
Having issues with my 90 TD5 throttle cutting out. Fine on open roads but terrible when pulling onto main roads or chaining gear at low speeds or going up hill. Revs disappear and engine warning light comes on, everything goes back to normal once I turn the ignition completely off and back on again and then there’s a horrendous turbo lag. I’ve noticed that the fuel gauge takes a dive as well then slowly creeps back up. Was a nightmare today in the welsh hill and dangerous at times, been fairly lucky with problems of this nature in the passed so I’m partially stumped, fuel pump or filter maybe?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks.

Check the simple things first, unplug the ECU plug under the drivers seat and check for oil in the plug, if there is oil there its coming from the injector loom, a cheap fix, if oil is getting to the ECU it can cause other symptoms like the fuel gauge problem.
Check for fuel leaks at the fuel pressure regulator, check fuel filter, hoses etc, check intercooler hoses for leaks.
And of course it could be a fuel pump/sender unit problem which is a bit of a pain to fix as tank has to be dropped to change it.
