TD5 running problems

Crap starting and general sluggishness could be unrelated.

Plenty it could be on a td5, none of which would be sorted with an engine rebuild.

Battery
Dodgy earth/chafed wiring
Starter motor
Crank position sensor
Starter arcing and interfering with CPS signal
Glow plugs
Glow plug relay/wiring
Injector loom
Injector seals (I know they've been done..)
Fuel filter
Fuel filter housing or it's internal bits
Fuel pump
Fuel pressure regulator
MAP sensor, wouldn't affect starting though ime, definitely sluggishness
MAF sensor as above

Coolant and fuel temp sensors, though I don't think they would stop it starting, only the CPS will kill a td5. May be wrong.

Plenty to investigate, all stuff that wouldn't be covered with the rebuild apart from injector seals and injectors.

Cracked head?
New glow, plugs starter motor, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump, crank position sensor, fuel filter and return valve, temp sensors all replaced, injector loom, earth cables were all new...... ok I wil start with MAP MAF senors then ill book into injectors reprogamming. JTR Engines in Poole built engine and pressure tested the head. AL Services remapped ecu. I'll look ito the rest thanks

AL SERVICES are Land Rover specialists and the biggest around

Fine, but you said they remapped it to get it up to 165Bhp, did they use a generic remap or use one tailored for what you wanted?, either way a stage 1 is a completely different thing to trying to get it up to a mythical 400 ponies.

Cheers

I’d start with re-doing injector seals and washers, using genuine parts, as it’s cheap and the symptoms you have of white smoke and hard to start are symptomatic of that fault.
Then, diagnostic live data, if no fault found , check all fuel lines, junctions for air getting into fuel system.

So is the garage down the road from me. Ive seen them work and i wouldnt let them touch my 110.

Id only trust a few companies to do mapping get it wrong and you end up with issues.

Who said you would get 400 bhp?
sorry it was me who guessed I'd have that much. turbo added 80bhp approx and alistort said 80 again 4 the intercooler. I just added them all up. im just a barber with the softest of hands and have no Idea on how all this works. im learnin bit at a time or at least trying

Did you try and fix / diagnose the original starting issue you had before you embarked on the rebuild and added mods?

or was it a case of change anything you could think of and hope it fixed the starting issue? Did you speak to anyone who works on / fixes td5s?

Cheers

I mentioned in a reply that im a barber with the softest of hands and all mechanicals r new 2 me. companies gave me bhp figures and all I did was add them up. I thought it was that simple. obviously im wrong. either way when I got this running issue sorted I will get it on rolling road just 4 peace of mind. I have some1 coming 2morro 2 recode injectors and I will go from there. thanks 4 all ur help n advice

Ok gotcha! Always useful to know how much knowledge someone has before starting out.

Thats not quite how bhp calculations work.

If it is mapped properly it will be producing roughly 190bhp maybe low 200s.

yes I tried 1stly new earth cablesx2 then fuel pump fuel filter and return valve and blew out pipe lines in that order. no I haven't spoken 2 anyone apart from locals

ahhhh I didn't know that... u learn something new every day lol. rolling road it will b then if n when it gets sorted. thanks 4 everything

So did you think you got a resolution to the issue?
Only ask, as it seems bizarre to me , to have an issue, not fix it, but embark on a major modification plan and with all that expense. without resolving the issue you originally had.

ahhhh I didn't know that..

post #10?? If you did all this work at the suggestion of a LR specialist , then I would say they were taking you for a ride.

Cheers

no I did it all off my own back. I just wanted more Ge Gees out of it. I was sure it would of been fixed with engine rebuild. good job I did cause the oil pump was on its way out. settled up from the ex n had money left over n now im semi retired, just wanted 2 do more 2 my landy

Well, let us know how you get on, it does look nice, fingers crossed, get it reprogrammed for the injectors, do you know the codes ? or you going to have to open the rocker cover? then sort out your strating issue and the 2K (over fueling?). Then you can get it on the rolling road and unleash the beast within.

Cheers

You need to find a decent Indy specialist.

Don't mention all the mega money you've spent, just say you've recently bought it and it's got an issue. Just explain the issue to them. Don't tell em you've spent thousands on this and that cuz they might decide you can afford to bankroll em for a bit. They shouldn't if they're ok but you never know....

Google for Independents and research their reviews thoroughly. I have to travel 20+miles to someone I trust with mine, there's numerous a lot closer but the impression I get off them isn't good so I don't use em.

If you're not great with spanners I don't fancy your chances of sorting this issue easily, especially with all the parts that have supposedly been changed. I only say supposedly as I gather you're going on the word of your specialist that they've changed them

Edit
Tell them what symptoms you want them to fix. If they say 'we'll do injector seals', or anything else you've been told has already been replaced, let em. If it doesnt work its down to them to find out what will. But hopefully they will test and diagnose before committing their time and your money.
