Quantum platinum 5w40 is a good price at the moment fully synthetic as well

Designed for the pumpe duse Diesel engines just like the TD5 which has a similar design to The VW pd and cummins engines where the injection is pressured by individual cam lobes
 
It's never better to use semi synthetic compared with fully synth' and that has nothing to do with the mileage, it's not so much about lubrication capacity but about thermal breakdown on which the fully synth rules, i completely second that:

that's if you want THE BEST for your Td5... the recommendation from RAVE is obsolete IMO which doesnt mean you'll ruin the engine with any other oil but the life of it and of the turbo will be shorter

Confused now..............So, 5W40 FULLY synthetic is best for engines over 100,000 miles? :)

Completely agree, fully synth holds better when really hot and I do towing most days...

I'm going to try quantum long life next time but it's a 5w30 not 5w40 i looked at the technical information and it seems it's not much thinner but holds the temp as well... It meets the slandered of vw 507 or someone like that which is brilliant

Yes that's what I use a 5w40

Quantum oil is basically vw own oil and has to meet very strict baselines for PD engines

Funny thing is if you buy it in a big drum on the side of the can it says castrol Germany so many people including myself think it's castrol edge

The td5 is more like these engines than any other

That's why I'd go for that
 
Another thing is that the oils dedicated for EUI/|PD engines are specially formulated to not gain a certain electrical conductivity in time as the solenoids are working at 80V and the pins are quite exposed to oil

Where can I buy the quantum in bulk? Everywhere I have checked have been places like the bay of E and Amazon.
I have used a local bulk oil supplied before but they stock Total brand oil
