Yes my engine looks it's been leaking for quite a few years before my ownership but I found 2 of them. One to be the front cam plug and other is top cover gasket but only weaping . But there is alot of older oil over the starter as look from underneath and there is a Ali pipe that runs forward towards the rad . Am I guessing this is either the rear cam plug or the fpr? I cant see or smell and fuel leaking so regulator is serviceable.

Is there any other common areas near the area I describe on the td5 ?

Oh and it's in a 2004 disco .

Best thing is to get the engine cleaned thoroughly. Then look for fresh leaks.. There could be old oil there from leaks that have since been repaired.

Check the spin on oil filter is tight, I had a leak that I couldn't trace on a TD5, after good advice I checked the oil filter and it indeed tightened about a quarter of a turn

in the interest of proventing leaks....anyone got any tips on how to remove the CRANKshaft front oil seal from the timing chain cover? Book says need a special tool...hopefully not..
Secondly any advice on whether its ok to resuse stiffener bolts that hold the oil pump assembly to block? Just removed and were not orqued very high and not a stretch bolt so dont see a prob with reusing...but many wiser men and women on here than me!

I have just changed the crank front seal. Some people says that flat bladed screwdriver works, for me did not (I have a discovery 2 and the radiator was in place so very limited room to work)
What I have mode is modified a small cheap bearing puller (had to make it a bit narrower where it goes in between the seal and the shaft) and that was all. Also attached how I pushed back the new seal (a piece of plastic pipe and using the big bolt of the crank pulley).

I used a couple of self tappers on the steering pump seal, and pryed the seal out. Worked for other seals as well. Is there enough room there for this method? Will be doing mine when the weather gets warmer, so watching with interest.

I replaced the thermostat a few months ago, and want to replace all of the coolant and boost pipes with new silicone hoses and clamps. Also need to replace the fan bearing with one I've just bought, and the crank damper pulley.. So, it may be the best option for me seems to allow a weekend, and take out the two radiator assemblies.. Should give more room with out resorting to putting my back out...
