So I'm changing the oil every 3000 miles. Is it necessary to change the filters at the same time?

A little extreme isn't it??
Do you think? I have read many times that 3000 mile changes prolong the life of older engines.

I use the Disco for towing a caravan in the summer and thought fresh oil would be good for the winter months when it just has cold starts to contend with. My mate works for a Jag/LR spares distributor so I can get the filters and oil for less than £30 + vat.
Oil-change frequency depends a lot on what work you are doing with the vehicle.
If you are using it as a car, on-road and under 'normal' conditions you might change your oil every 6000mls or 6 months.
If you work in a quarry or a desert or anywhere where there's loads of dust and mud, you might decide to change your oil more often.
It really depends on the environment in which you are operating.
Use quality oil though
Well it will be 6 months since last done, oil in my engine goes black after a couple of hundred miles.
As will all diesel engine oil.
The TD5 centrifugal filter is brilliant and really does a great job so the oil is actually very clean.
We did tests on TD5 oil years ago on a near 100k mile vehicle, oil was a year old and had about 10k on it, after we did various tests and cleanliness checks and breakdown tests we felt it was such a waste we had just dumped 6 odd litres of oil that was still good. It was super universal tractor oil.
I like these oil threads they are common but you do learn abit from them. I service my Range Rover every 3000 miles or as near to. And only use Genuine filters.
I think genuine filters are too expensive, and a complete waste of money. No offence mate...
