can any body help?, D2 TD5 running rough with some but not much white smoke, the throttle response is poor in park or neutral but no power at all in drive, I have changed the fuel filter as this started after the wife ran around on the low fuel light, I have changed the injector harness and cleaned the ECU and plug in connectors with no improvement. Nanocom is now reporting a re-occurring 1,7 airflow circuit (logged low) alarm, at idle MAF air flow is 0, rising to 33gr/hr at 2000 rpm, obviously the problem is in this area so I unplugged the MAF sensor but this made no difference. I am assuming that the MAF is goosed but before I go to the expense of replacing it have I missed anything ??????.

I have now replaced the MAF sensor airflow readings are now in the 60gr/hr on tick over so good news there, I have also fitted an EGR blanking kit to prevent any nonsense from that direction, still now power and running lumpy any ideas ???

possibly filters in the fuel pump blocked from low fuel level, although white smoke could be injector seals
 
thanks, I am going to spend the morning with the nanocom, so I will report back later,
I have already done the naocom test for the injectors and all 5 can be heard clicking ok, I also checked the throttle function, this is ok with the two values adding up to 5V as it should be.
 
ok, slight emergency when I dropped the nanocom into the tray of diesel and old filter, but seems to be ok after a good drain and clean up !!
all outputs look to be within the guide lines as detailed in the nanocom tech documents.
starting to get frustrating.

If your oil level is rising, bring "do injector seals" to the very top of your list!
Without good seals everything else you are doing is probably a waste of time.

I would check the fuel pump - gauze at the base of the unit can get clogged... if that is dirty, run through/replace all filters in the line - that may include the pencil filter behind the fuel pressure regulator.
I had lumpy/low power when my fuel pump died... just about got me home, but felt like it was running on 3 cylinders!... got home and never started again, until a fitted a new pump.
Luckily you have a D2 so shouldn't have to cut a hole on your boot floor to get at the pump!

The injectors next weekend, thanks again for your help. I did check the pump for function and it sounded ok.
 
Ok,went to start the injector seal replacement and noticed that number exhaust valve had managed to spit out the rocker which was laying in the top of the head next to the injector.how the he'll did that come out ,is it possible to replace the rocker without removing the head?

Pretty sure you cant replace rocker without removing head. Question is, what happened?
If the valve stuck, (is the valve spring ok?) then the rocker could fall sideways, but that would mean your valve will be bent and probably piston knackered as well.
If the hydraulic lash adjuster failed, in theory the rocker could fall out. But then why would it fail?

Mark, the valve stems look to be sitting at the same height ,so hopefully the valve and piston are ok and I can not see any break in the spring either, still confused as to how the follower escaped. Most confusing is a lack of damage or marks on either follower of cam lobe. You are more than welcome to a cup of tea if you are coming to mk tomorrow. You will probably need one if you are going to Ikea!
