This is my fourth Land Rover product, but my first defender. So I'm used to driving along with one ear cocked for every rattle and creak. I usually put it down to my imagination e.g. is it pulling properly etc, but yesterday, my 64000 mile 53 plate TD5 90 did something I couldn't ignore.
On the motorway in the p***ing rain, it felt like the engine shut down and the engine light came on, none of the ignition lights, just the engine light. After about two seconds the engine came back online and the light went out, just enough time for me to notice and start to panic.
There has been no repeat of the fault today and i have driven through some puddles, but on my way home I stopped at the supermarket for ten minutes, when I got back it wouldn't start until I had relocked and reopened the doors.
I have noticed that when I pull up at traffic lights etc, for about two seconds the idle is a bit lumpy, after that it settles down.

Cas anyone else experienced similar problems?
I believe my air flow sensor is probably nearing the end of it's life. Can anyone give me an idea of symptoms for this?

Get the fault codes read oil in loom, injector washers are common faults

I probably will be after that welcome. I wonder if any of your other 3,000 plus posts have been any more helpfull. Doubt it tho. I'm sure the forum sponsors love you.

Walk back outside, Pull on your rhino skin coat and then come back in.

P*** take and banter are a large part of this site. If you want the tech help just take it in good humour and the answers you seek will be found.

If you'd introduced yourself first before posting for help you may have gotten a better response.;)

when you went back to the landy in the supermarket did you take longer than 30 secs from unlocking the vehicle to attempting to start it? (putting the shopping in the back, lighting a fag, setting the sat nav etc)?

It sounds like 2 issues. The first bein the stuttering issue and the second being that the immobiliser had reset itself after 30 seconds?

The immobiliser issue is pretty normal. You'll probably find that your fob wasn't quite close enough to the receiver ring around the ignition barrel.

For the second one I'd start by checking the red plug on the ecu for signs of oil contamination.

The more I think about the second one, the more I think you aare right and it's down to my own brain fade.
I'll have a look at the plug tomorrow when I check the earth.
Thanks for the info.
