Hello,

I had problems with "kangooring" and the power, there was no turbo boost and can't pass 3000rpm. Last evening I serviced my Discovery td5 by changing new oem MAF, MAP, EGR delete kit, changed injector wiring, replaced head cover gasket, cleaned the ecu connectors, new turbo solenoid, new vacuum hoses. Now the car is driving for sure better, no "kangooring", no faults in diagnostic but the turbo max boosting starts only from about 3000/3300rpm, in the low rpms is not completely dead, but is still slow and not performing well.

Do someone has some ideas ? I'm not finding any similar topic and solution of such late turbo boost.

Hi, at what rpm do you expect to have max boost though? cos all of them are reaching max boost around that figure ... and how much is that boost on your's? manual or auto?

Hi Sierrafery, well I was thinking at around 2500rpm, maybe I'm searching a problem where there is no any problem 🤔 they are quite rare in my country, so never had another td5 and nobody around has them to try another one to understand how it should boost.
I don't have a boost gauge and didn't check live parameters in on going car, but after service I tried to accelerate when stationary with mechanic which was looking at live parameters on launch diagnostics and he said that he saw ~0.6bar when I was revving around ~3800rpm
I think I should check boost in a on going vehicle, it should be around 1.2bar right ?

Today I checked the Westgate rod threads and everything seems okey. 13 threads visible

stationary boost is irrelevant, on stock(untuned) D2 the boost should be 1.3 bar under load... tighten the wastegate to 10 threads left see how it behaves then if it goes to overboost back one thread... i'm asking again, is it manual or automatic? Eu2 or Eu3 engine and what size tyres you have on it

Whats wrong with you ? not the Disco. Its 20+ years old, max torque is at 2200 revs, a 12 speed gear box, and used correctly will do what its supposed to do very well. Why would you want to rev it over 3000 rpm.

I bought this car with some problems from an old man, invested money, changed a lot of parts and only want to know if now is everything okay and is it how it should be. I'm testing the car and not thinking to drive it always with high revs. So I'm the problem because trying to give another life to an old Disco ? Can be 😉
