Hi all. Quick question. Can any of you very helpful chaps or lassies tell me which wire in the multi-plugs at the rear top of the instrument binnacle, supplies the main beam warning lamp?

Thanks all....

Hi, C0230 pin 3 which means the larger plug(RH side), blue/grey wire... though if you miss the main beam warning the problem might be more complicated than a wiring issue...;let's hope not

Thanks Sierra....I've managed to trace the wire although my eyesight led me to believe it was Blue/White. I have checked the track on the Binnacle circuit board and I am definitely not getting any power at the solder point for the socket pin at the track. There was also a Pink/Black wire at the same position on the circuit board (one above the other) so I knew it was either one. I'm now at the passenger foot well and have traced the Blue/Grey to the Grey plug on the BCU. This is so damn frustrating as I can't drive it on the road because of the failure of a tiny bulb to illuminate.....Everything else about the car is perfect. GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!

You're on the wrong path then cos the main beam warning signal has nothing to do with the BCU, it's hardwired from the instrument pack's plug to interior fusebox C0590 pin 5(see RAVE - electrical library - connector views) where it should be delivered by the IDM (that's why i said it can be complicated) so if you can't find some dry joint in the fusebox you might need another cos the IDM is an integrated circuit within the fusebox

though why can't you drive it ... can't you see that the main beam is actually on? ... it means you have some very weak bulbs then :)

Thanks Sierra. Excellent information as always. You have helped me out no end in the past and I really appreciate your knowledge and wisdom.....The reason that I cannot drive it is because it failed my country's national car test because of this issue..... :(

AArrrghhhhhh:( ... that main beam warning thing is overcomplicated by LR engineers IMO, unlike others the main beam warning is a 14V long life bulb without self test not a 5V LED managed by the instrument packs electronics so if no joy with the troubleshooting cut that blue/grey(slate) wire from the fusebox output(as to not backfeed the IDM) splice into the blue/white main beam output from the stalk and connect them through a 1A inline fuse and you'll have the warning ... then if you'll replace the fusebox for some other reason you can do everything back if you want

I was considering those draconian measures but was worried that the high amp draw to the main beams would instantly blow the tiny bulb and leave me back at square one. I have the fuse box out of it's fixings awaiting removal in the morning. It did give me trouble before when water corroded the tracks at the bottom of the circuit board so hopefully it's a similar issue or a dry joint as you say. Thanks Sierra. You're a Disco wiz :)

The draw of the main beams circuit has nothing to do with a parallel one cos when you splice in it you only pick up the voltage from that circuit which will have only the draw of the warning bulb, it's like when you connect another tiny bulb one side to earth and the other to the stalk output no matter to what beam.... the only problem can be if the voltage on the main beam circuit exceeds 14V which is quite unlikely...though it's better if you can fix the fusebox cos the water ingress could have affected other circuits too, buy one of these https://www.ercmarket.com/nanoprotech-auto-moto-electric-lubrication-spray-210ml.html and soak well the whole fusebox with it, it's a brilliant product, i've used it in all the fuseboxes, ECUs and exposed connectors ...worths it's weight in gold believe me

I must get myself some of that stuff. Hopefully it will be easy enough to sort the dry joint at the IDM. I will let you know how I get on Sierra....
Many thanks again for extending your expansive knowledge in this mere mortals direction :)
