Neither me or my mechanic are any the wiser over this problem. Under normal road running i.e. steady moving away from stop to 50mph plus, the disco runs as normal. When under load such as going up a hill or accelerating, the old boy starts to "hunt" for power and waivers between 2.5 - 3k revs, only stopping to do so when easing off the pedal. This obviously doesn't give him much power and he starts to slow down as the revs are not pushing him enough. Any one had the same problem? Also seems to not get out of third gear quick enough and that adds to the problem of acceleration. Thanks in advance

Now I know feck all about autos, not much about manual gearboxes tbf but first thing I thought was torque converter purely from some dregs of memory reading thru endless threads on here. Hopefully someone will be along soon who's got the knowhow but in the meantime I'd be searching for disco 2 torque converter symptoms or autobox hunting for gear etc

Edit @jamesmartin might be a good shout

Seems like overboost or turbo ovrspeed protection, unplug the AAP sensor(on the airbox) and test drive it so...if it's better we'll speak then or just google out "Td5 overboost"

Get it plugged in to either a Nanocom and read the codes, rather then guess, unless Fery's suggestion works, as it might well do, but you need to record live data to see what the problem is, and you can only record this on a Nanocom.

cheers we'll try this out

Thanks to all who helped - it was the Turbo Charger Waste Gate Modulator (Overboosting) 20 minute job seems to have fixed it. Link in below post
