Evening all.

I am currently working on my 2000 td5 font bearings.
The old ones taken off consisted of a spacer, tab washer and lock nut with a small collar on the outer edge. I was advised that the spacer could be removed from the equation by acquiring a thin nut (without collar), lock tab washer and locknut which i purchased as a claimed TD5 bearing kit. I have tried fitting these but the lock nut is too wide and won't allow the drive shaft hub to slide home. If I fit a second thinner nut (without the collar) from a different kit in its place everything fits, should I be fitting the narrower nut as a lock nut?

Thanks

Check youtube Land Rover Toolbox Videos. They explain the difference between preload and endfloat. The two methods of adjusting wheel bearings.

Should help a great deal, it helped me. Theres some info about it in my 90 build thread.

there are 2 ways ,earlier was 2 thin nuts with a lock washer between them, you adjust the first nut till free play in the bearings is just removed , then fit lock washer then second nut fully tighten the second nut then lock washer over on to inner nut flt and opposite ben washer over outer nut, or use the spacer and locking single nut

Thanks, that makes sense as they fit well, just seemed odd I had to pinch the thinner nut from the rear wheel bearings set. The thicker ones with the collar don't fit, which I guess makes sense as they are fatter and we have added an extra nut the the TD5 equation.

@banksy: Landrover toolbox has helped me out a lot too, got me as far as putting the axle hub on and then it didn't want to fit...
