I have a pain in the butt recent problem, intermittent hunting or lumpy Idle.

Original fault was poor starting, so :

New injector seals ( discovered injector roller mis-aligned and scoring cam so fitted new cam and injector rockers)
New Glow plugs
New MAF MAP and ATS
EGR deleted 2 years ago
Now starts perfectly (half a turn), but appears to have developed this annoying & intermittent fault.

So I cured the starting problem, but trying seems I now have another problem!
To diagnose this fault I found a serious imbalance on two injectors, so replaced them as well.

The clutch spigot bearing does make a noise for around 60 seconds when first driving, but it has always done this.

Crank Position sensor?
DMF on the way out?
Clutch switch?
Hello I’m new on here I am also having the same issue had the engine rebuilt after it melted number 1 piston due to over fuelling it’s he new injectors and Loom just put a engine harness on it and still the same missfire and white smoke and bad to start I’ve tried a different Ecu no different I’m out of ideas now

was that a new harness?

hi mate

how u getting on with the wiring

mean to ask, where abouts in kent are u plse
, not much further i am afraid.
hd a fiddle about with harness behind block and under air box.
Problem goes away if i remove the ATS SENSOR on the air box, as then ECU goes to default setting for atmospheric pressure.
So tested that, still had a little cough so had a good fiddle with harness behind block problem has gone for a while, but it will be back, so who knows maybe a wiring short somewhere etc.
i WILL get to he bottom of it but its too cold at the moment!

blimey mate , know it can be frustrating

may i ask a daft question plse, was the ecu brand new, if not , would u happen to know if a remap has been added or did u program it urself

with the aid of a td5 wiring diagram , as it shows in them what colour wire goes to what pin of the ecu are u able to match it up , or have u still got stray wires

but as the engine is running i assume the wiring is all done

is the latest basically the engine is running rough

have u already done the test to see what ur fuel pump pressure is

tried running it with the fuel cap off

see ur not that far from me

thks

ecu is untouched, its not original but is from a 02 (mine is 03), has been running fine for 5 years no probs,
new fuel pump, fuel pressure is fine.
The crank sensor SRC ( signal return cable??) is bared as i said but other than that nothing obvious.
The loom from the ATS and MAF are notorious as are the one that crosses gearbox for chaffing so thats what I am lokking at next, i have given it a wiggle and its settled down again, but fault is intermittent so i want to create / cure and be sure thats the prob etc.

Why fuel cap off? can tank pressurise?

Does your temp gauge ever drop to the resting position when your lumpy idle occurs? I had an odd idle a few years ago pulled my hair out for a bit then changed the coolant temp sensor and problem sorted. Just an idea it helped me out at the time

cheers mate, not noticed that, but am changing the temp sensor anyway as have read it can cause probs,

Worth doing, 2 minute job and sorted mine out. Like you I had chased my tail in several directions first before trying that

thks, so if i’m reading it right , it’s the hunting that’s happening but not all the time

ref the duel cap, was just on the off chance is possibly a breather was blocked and an easy test that doesn’t cost u any money lol

that’s not much help is it, ;):D

no lumpy idle / misfire is intermittent
so i need it in fault to diagnose etc

ah, i see apologises and see what u mean ref the diagnostics

are u able to set ur diagnostic to record live data and the wiggle the possible faulty looms

plse don’t throw a hammer at me, lol

wish i had a diagnositc!! no nanocom here etc.

ah, i see, plus as urs is 2002 it’s a shame because it isn’t obd2 compliant

know i’ve got a elm 327 but alas ur system is too early , it just plugs into the port and use my via my ipad

see some have mentiaoned about the fox well disgnotics but at least if u bought a nanocom it will be curse be accurate
