Just an update for all you keen LZ watchers! Have got the head off now, no obvious fail points on the head gasket, but the 3 sections of the gasket had de-laminated and there is some odd colouring in pot 4. Will take it back to Aberdeen this weekend and it is going in for pressure testing on Monday. Will keep you posted.

unless its pumping coolant out head gasket failure is generally staining across fire ring,showing passage of gasses

how much is the test?
stick some detailed piccies up over the weekend and the smarter, sharp eyes guys on here might spot something before you need to get it tested

Have got the head stripped now. Definite signs of cracking in 3 pots, just behind the glow plug point in the head, opposite side from the valves. Will try and upload pics. Also discolouration on piston head pot 4. Not sure if these are the root cause but now I have got to this level will get the head tested anyway, just to be sure.

is the disco worth it? you can get second hand heads for a few hundred, or new ones for 1k.. or like you say, find a new engine
