Td5 defender not starting

Hi there just wondering if anyone can help.
I have a 2000 w defender 90 td5.
I was driving home the other night and the engine management light came on and it cut out and now it will not start.
I have ran through all the usual stuff,checked for oil in the ecu plugs,tried the crank position sensor,plugged it in to diagnostics and no related faults showed.
I have now noticed then when you go to turn it over the fuel pump runs as normal,then when you turn the key to the start position the guages drop down and it just turns over and does not start,
Anyone have any ideas?

what faults did show on the diagnostic?

Is the fuel pump noisey? Do all the gauges drop?
 
No faults relating to engine,just about abs and air con as it does not have that fitted,yes all the guages drop and the relay seems to be working ok,i tried swapping the relay and that made no difference either
 
Did it never start again after it initially cut out? Are you getting a good cranking speed? Battery condition OK? batt earth & ECU earth OK? Loosen the fuel pipe where it goes into the FPR - should get high pressure spray, anything less will not do. Let us know what you find...:)
 
Thanks everyone for the replies,has twin gel cell batteries fully charged so cranking speed good,will check fuel pump as i supect that may be the problem
