TD5 De-CAT - MoT Issues

First of all, I have done a search, however there doesn't seem to be any concluding information anywhere.

So, I'm asking if I fitted a De-CAT down pipe to my 2004 TD5 Disco, will it give the tester any reason to fail it?

I'm after answers from people who actually know the facts or maybe people who have had it done and have passed a recent MoT.

This has really been discussed to death for the last year. And has caused some serious arguments. Basically If it had a cat it needs a cat.

But info is there with a search of what was/is needed.There is 1 manufacture who is making a straight pipe for TD5's with a phony looking cat on it to get through Mot's. I doubt a company would make them if they were not needed. This is a fairly large parts accessory company specializing in defenders/disco, land rover parts
 
Well that's one of the reasons I started a new topic, to try and get some up to date information as most of the topics I found when searching were from 2008/09.

If it will fail the MoT, how come so many people have it?
 
Some testers, including mine, are getting round the new rules introduced in February this year, by stating an advisory such as: "Under-trays fitted, obscuring some underside components." So, despite what I have posted previously, you may be OK. The only way to find out is submit for the test.
 
The google function on the site is hit and miss,

A few months ago just before/after xmas,

Bottom line is if it left the factory with one and has since been removed, your going to fail
 
Think I will just leave it on then until I can get one with a fake CAT.

I've read that removing the EGR will fail the MoT, but as you can't even see it without removing the engine cover (which the tester can't do), I think it will stay off.

No EGR valve is not a fail (yet), but my tester told me that Unipart has been barracking VOSA to include it, so might be a test item next year.:confused:
 
Well mine's staying off regardless. The tester isn't allowed to remove anything for the MoT, and my emissions were better with it removed than last year anyway.
 
Mine runs better with no EGR so it is staying off.

My down pipe looks like it has a silencer on it rather than cat.
 
Just an update on the CAT and MOT situation. My 2006 model TD5 Defender had its MOT this morning and nobody said anything about the lack of a CAT on its stainless exhaust system. Even though it had one originally on the rust-prone Land Rover system it was supplied with. As a result of all this discussion I was expecting to have to put the CAT back on and put it in for a retest. I thought it was worth a try de-CATed, and I'm glad I did.

Just had an MOT last week and passed!
My td5 defender has a de-cat pipe, silencer replacement pipe and the standard back box and i passed with no problems what so ever they didn't even mention it!

Mine never came with a cat and when I binned the EGR and cleaned out the years of gunk in the inlet manifold the emmissions were ten times better than before. No way its going back on. If I have to I'll fab a dummy EGR body but I doubt most MOT testers would know what it looks like anyhow.
