Hi all,

I'm busy removing the dash from my td5 bulkhead and I was wondering what the best way to remove it without stripping it down more than I have to. The Haynes manual I've got only goes as far as taking off the facia panel. I'm stripping it down so I can get the bulkhead straightened and galvanised before painting and fitting.

Thanks

Albert

Hi Everyone. Ive been slowly restoring a 1997 300Tdi, as I've recently posted. The issue I currently have is, my Lad who owns the land has taken out the complete dash board. He hasn't photographed his dismantling, and now he's away on a course I've been left to complete the job. I'm currently replacing the dash, and have discovered a part which I cant find a home for. Ive identified it as a 'Dash Binnacle Lower Support' and have stopped the restructuring until I can find out where it fits. Any one got any clues. I'm sure you lads are pretty clued up, just hoping for a bit of advise. AGAIN. I have a feeling I'm gonna be taking parts back off to fit this, but hey ho, all a big learning curve. Many Thanks in advance for any advice.

It's been a while now since I took mine completely apart, but this is the thread I put together while I did it - I tackle the dashboard on page 2, around post #20:

110 body removal (slroc.co.uk)

Hopefully there's something in there that's helpful - I start putting it all back together later on in the thread..

Good luck with it :)

Many thanks for the eprothe, every little bit of knowledge helps. I'm slowly getting through it all, but it wouldn't be possible without you guys on here. many Thanks again.

Hi Albert

Nothing too difficult to remove the dash. First tip I would say is take the bloody steering wheel off. I wish I had it would have made it easier. All the screws are pretty obvious and should be easy enough to locate. Its not a tight fit and should come off pretty easily. I must have had mine off about 10 times. The handle on the passenger side is a doddle and gives access to the wiper gubbins.

Whilst its off please replace your wiper boxes. They are dead easy to fit after u get access and they are cheap. Go for genuine Landrover ones, they only a few quid more and remember to fully grease and replace the long wire thingy with the knobs on that the motor drives. Everything will be easy to see when u get the dash off. Dont bother fannying on trying to get the little grub screw out of the wiper box on the outside - jut cut it off with ur grinder, ur replacing it anyway.

Take your time taking the plastic cover off the inside of the dash where the vent handles go through, its tight but comes out out. When its out give it a a spray of plastic spray and it will look brand new. Nows your chances to have a look at the demister and try and figure out why it doesnt demist, I cleaned out all of the various vent pipes for the heater and its now really good.

I replaced all of the screws around the dials box with new stainless ones with large washers and I think it looks decent, more industrial and obvious.

Just make sure you add on 6 extra hours. Its a Landy after all.

Hope this helps mate.

Stumpy
