TD5 clutch/gearbox problem, any ideas?

Hi All, I have a disco 2001 TD5 which has developed a rare clutch slip every now and then but to be honest it will still trap on up steep hills in high gears and not slip............weird.
It has started leaving 10p size oil stains on the drive for a while and now and there is quite a racket when the clutch is released at low speeds (loud wheering sound not a metalic sound). I would say it sounds like a knackered power steering pump but its obviously isn't as it's something to do with the clutch. When the pedal is pressed it seems to disappear......
anyone got any ideas or is it obviously just a new clutch kit/release bearing?

Clutch slave cylinder ?.

Have a look under to see if clutch fluid is dripping of the bell housing.

Release bearing .... so fit a whole clutch kit and a new release arm too..

You might be as well to do this quite soon.

The fluid leak .... you need to find out if it is brake fluid or engine oil, and you should try to find this out before you take the gearbox out. You MAY need a new crankshaft rear oil seal, or a clutch slave cylinder seals kit.

Try to smell the oil to see if is engine or transmision oil;if is normal engine oil is due to the rear oil seal damaged due to oil overfill(when you fill the engine with the quantity of oil as in the manual without checking the level before the last litre).You should change the clutch kit and the oil seal, but first be sure about the leak source.
It happened the same with a VW LT bought few months ago, with a "fresh oil change" when the oil flooded the whole clutch.

hey did you find out if it was the slave cylinder? i have the same problem - almost sounds like an air leak
