I’ve just done a complete TD5 10p rebuild. The only thing I regret using was a Britpart head gasket. It is now breathing quite excessively. Whether it did from day one I don’t know as only noticed it by chance when checking the oil after 500 miles.

It’s puzzling me. What have I missed?

All engines breath, so it depends on how bad it is.
When the engine is hot and you undo the oil filler cap and rest it in its hole, does it blow off?

It dances a bit and there is visible mist chuffing out around it. However, when I took the breather pipe off and put my thumb on the pipe to see what kind of pressure there was it blew out the plastic cap at the front of head within about 5 seconds. That’s when I started to get that sinking feeling. My mate’s TD5, with similar mileage and probably much harder life, doesn’t breathe at all.

In that case you may have an issue!
