Good evening everyone!

Hope we’re all well! This is my first post so go easy :)

I’ve spent the last 2 days servicing my D2, done all the filters, oil, coolant .... and the brakes! Whilst changing the rear discs/pads we noticed the rear lines are a bit corroded and unfortunately one of them sheared whilst replacing the offside calliper. Managed to flare the ends and reconnect it, but there is some seepage and not as much play as there was initially ... so it’s not a permanent fix.

Now I’ve done as much googling and trawling through forums as I can, but can’t find the answer to my exact query which is; if I bypass all the corroded lines and route some flexible brake tubing in their place, is this likely to fail an MOT?

Any help would be gratefully received!

What do you mean by flexible tubing ? Either bendable brake pipe or flexible hosing would be OK - but flexible hosing would add a bit to the brake pedal travel as it's not as stiff as brake pipe.

I meant something like the HEL braided brake lines .. my rationale is it might be easier (and possibly cheaper) for me to run one of these lines alongside the old one instead of trying to remove the old lines and replace them with like for like lines.

you need proper brake pipe for the lines ,you can use braided instead of the standard flexi but it then means you cant clamp a caliper off if you need to work on it

On my old td5 I owned a few years back I replaced all existing lines with flexible braided hoses and secured the new lines to the old lines and I never had any issues with MOT

Fair point, that makes sense. Brakes are something I don’t have a whole lot of experience around other than the basics.
