Hi All.
New here and looking for some insight!
My Auto box has started acting up and I haven't managed to find a similar problem elsewhere to get some help with it.
It mostly works fine, with smooth shifts from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd, and locks up in 4th at about 53mph. But the shift from 3rd to 4th feels like it kicks down to 2nd before engaging 4th. It makes no difference under hard or gentle acceleration although it's more dramatic when pushed! After the 'hickup' when 4th is engaged but not yet locked up, it seems the revs are the same as they were before the change with no drop. If you use kick down after it's locked up the same thing happens when changing from 3rd to 4th. Same thing if you manually change to 3rd the go back into Drive.
I've changed the oil and filter which made no difference (as I expected) but I noticed the old oil was a bit black and burnt smelling.
My thoughts are it's probably either a sticky solenoid or a burnt clutch, but not sure what the symptoms of a worn/burnt clutch would be. I'd assume there would be more slipping from a knackered clutch. From what I can gather from reading various forums, the 1st gear clutch would be more likely to fail. It's never had a problem engaging drive when cold or hot.
Any input would be gratefully received!
Cheers.
