TD5 Air Suspension Strange goings on !!

Thought I'd add my experiences as I have just come back from a main dealer who has run diagnoses on my 105k 1999 TD5. It took well over an hour but only cost £53 and as well as the suspension included a full vehicle inspection. They also changed the setting to all-door unlocking with one push for free!

If it goes down equally on both sides this can still mean a leak in only one bag. The SLS is supposed to keep it level and especially if you are moving around inside. If it doesn't go down on both sides it maybe a valve problem.
I'm surprised this happens when the ignition is off & key is out though.
The only way to find out which bag it is is with soapy water as previously described. Testbook does not tell you.

When raised to off-road height and parked it seems to stay up considerably longer. This may be due to the bag sides being straight rather than curved, reducing hole size - but surely the pressure is higher?

I was quoted £283.18 to supply/fit one bag but no reduction for both. Time estimate 0.6 hrs. Paddocks do one for approx £80 inc vat so fitting is at £275 exc vat per hour! From previous posts some people have done this themselves and there are some useful pointers. I don't fancy messing around with a pressurised system though so I'll find someone who can at a better price.

RAVE gives a good explanation of the system and repairs from 64-6 onward.

If it doesn't go down on you it isn't a Land Rover!

Is it normal for 2000 model s.l.s. to drop when weight is introduced ie. person or less, when motor is not running?

Hi

Your suspension will drop if you add weight but it should regain its normal height with the engine running and the doors must be closed it should take about 30secs to a minute.

This happen to me the other week, one side of the truck dropped at the back...... when I parked up in our garage which is on an incline....

Fired her back up and and watch the rear rise.... really dreaded the next morning ...expected to see her flat on hear ass... but to my suprise she wasnt...so my advice is this...keep an eye on it and dont spend the green until you hvae 2.. and remember replace both bags not just one

i read that if u disconect battery the car never knows anything has been touched not sure if that right finding a good but reasonable garage in cambridge who will touch a landrover is like finding rocking horse poo lol

oh and female driver here have to relay all this to my father so please try and explain in simple terms lol :p
The SLS is quite complicated for a female:rolleyes:;)...........but to be certain u've done all yur best replace the height sensors too, and if the problem persists we'll leed u further:p

Sam

It wouldnt hurt geting them both replaced and I understand that they got to be programmed in

No they don't need to be calibrated, so long as you disconnect the battery earth before disconnecting the old ones and don't put it back on until you connected the new ones.
