TD5 80k miles whats going to break next

Have had my 03 TD5 for 3 years am about to hit 80k miles and just had the exhaust manifold changed (to much right foot after the chip upgrade:D) But what else is about to go - does this sound like I am tempting fate??? To date its only been consumables and the odd seal here and there.
 
I've had mine for 122k miles, and 6 years (from new). The first 100k miles data is here:

Main items:
1. As you say, a few oil seals (no big deal).
2. Starter Motor
3. Front wheel bearings
4. ABS sensor
5. ACE sensor x2
6. Ever leaky sunroof

Servicing has been low-cost once the car went out or warranty, and teh local non-franchise does the job.

I have one Td5 at 100.000 your potential problems addition to MartinK's
1) Kinds of ACE problems
2) Oil on the ECU and harness
3) Front differential
4) Driver side door and electric window problems

I tried to look for another truck never liked any
 
A new harness is about 40 quid and easy to fit. They're on ebay all the time. They say that it is modified to stop oil getting into it.

I have had my 2000 TD5 118K miles, 7 weeks now and have swapped out the gear box bias plate, as there was no spring centering of the gear lever. 5 quid off ebay.

While doing this job the hand brake button failed. New handbrake. Ebay 10 quid.

The tailgate door latch failed. Ebay 30 quid.

I got the car with a diesel leak. New pressure regulator. 140 quid inc fitting at local indie.

I have now got an intermittent starting problem. Just a click on first try, then it turns over 2nd try. Bad earth?

The Sunroof leaks. I will be tackling this soon. An easy fix.

I'm expecting the air suspension to fail next, either the bags or the compressor maybe?

The only saving grace of this car is the availability of reasonably priced parts and loads of backup on the forums for DIY repair. The LR RAVE maintenance CD is also very good.

Surely the Disco TD5 is no worse than any other vehicle? My last cars (incl BMW, Vauxhall, Ford, VW, Peugeot) all had similar problems. If anything the VW was the best, but the rest are on a "level playing field". Both my last Beemers had problems when the milages notched on a bit... As Andymach says, at least trhe TD5's have a plentiful availability of spares, and top help widely available like this forum...

I agree - my worst performing vehicle was a Volvo. Managed to sort minor gremilins like th sunroof and door latch. Still have a problem with the rear door seal - not sure if the door has dropped or the seal needs to be replaced.
 
It's been on my mind that alot of the things that fail on TD5's are made by other companies. EG the starter motor that seems to give Solenoid issues at about 80k miles. Also the turbo is made by Garrett and is in other cars etc etc. I noticed also that the notorious rear suspension air bags are made by Continental. Is the tail gate door latch made by Bosch?

Land Rover always gets blamed for these failures but it's a pity some of these OEM suppliers don't stand over the absolute ****e that they are producing that are causing the TD5's to fail over and over again with the same problems.

I had a brand new alfa 147 in 02, totally stunning car but..., 5K miles the leccy winders failed (japanese motor), 10K the battery gave up the ghost (M5 break down, tow home by the AA) 30K miles alternator belt (some rubber company) - 40K computer failed (problem was it told me i had 100 miles of petrol in the tank but it was empty) - 58.5K (luckily as wartranty was 60K!) the cam belt failed (some rubber company again) not a single Alfa componen failed but...- the manufacturer of the car never makes the components, it just chooses them so can only be blamed for choosing crap ones which is clearly the case here!!
 
Got some bad news for you lot, the 'manufacturers' dont make most of it. They source parts out and then assemble the finnished vehicle. It's still there bloody fault though, they ordered and quality control the ****e anyway.

What is the The LR RAVE maintenance CD.

Also - anyone had problems with the headlight unit on face lift Disco 2? I have spent the day drilling out the screws that pass through the top into the headlight they were slipping in the brass retainer. I have been using the torx screws on top to release and change bulbs. I had to replace the brass retainer by drilling out and fitting a nut to hold the screw. They seem to retail for £150 a piece so a bodge fix will have to do!
