I thought the egr mite help but I think there are still other probs ,I've got injector cleaner in the tank at the mo,and planning to get it on a live data reading too to see what that says ,my mechanic did say that sometimes you have to run the car for a bit so obc can learn and make alterations to what you have done

You need to check the MAF readings. This can upset the TD4 if it's not correct. The engine temperature needs to be correct too. It common for the thermostat to stick open, causing running issues. Also it's well worth removing the inlet manifold for a clean. The EGR system really clogs it up. It one port is coked up, black smoke will still be evident.
As far as I'm aware, the TD4 ECU isn't particularly adaptive to general engine running. It has only minor compensation abilities on some sensors. If the sensors are outside the normal compensation window, a substitute value is given. This is why a bad MAF causes such issues.
Oh lastly. The TD4 doesn't like cheap supermarket fuel. Named brands are best, like BP and Shell. My TD4 is happiest on V Power.

Well had it on a live test yesterday and it's saying the boost control valve , and the thermostat is not opening when it should,so going to change the two ,the thermostat sounds a tricky job tho.

Oh yeah forgot to say about the egr ,it wasn't till the next day when I said it was worse that I found a pipe had came off when I took for a run.

Lots of us have used the inline thermostat mod. This takes less time and works well ;)

After a few days of no white smoke - it's back... Revving at 2k in neutral - no smoke when moving under load, however, when going downhill in 3rd or 4th with foot off accelerator then it'll smoke. Will have to try turbo boost solenoid next...

Have you checked and replaced the breather filter and cleaned the PCV?
At times of low boost, it's possible for oil mist to be drawn into the intake ports.

No it was one of the the fat hoses excuse my interpretation but I'm not sure what pipe it was ,so what's the inline thermostat mod cause I have no clue lol

Hi Nodge68,

Have you checked and replaced the breather filter - previous owner had done this.
cleaned the PCV - I thought once swapped for BMW version this sorted this?

Hi nodge
It's me again,I took the car to a garage which showed up a fault with turbo boost valve,I've had that off and cleaned it all up and checked the the hoses, refitted it and was still doing the same thing,so I was a bit naughty and called the AA as I'm a member ,he came out put it on the test which showed up 1 fault which was the egr which he said was prob cause it's been blanked ,he said compression was fine but number 3 injector wasn't reading the same a story the others and that could be possibly the problem as nothing else shows up on his machine, so with my lack of knowledge I've seen some on eBay which say there good and tested with a 30 day guarantee ,just wondered what are your thoughts on second hand ones or do you think I should go another way ,would appreciate your input as this is costing me a small fortune as you can imagine, thanks
Mick

There are diesel specialists about that will test the injectors for around £30 each.
The EGR blank can't cause issues, if it's fitted correctly;)

He checked the egr blank and seemed happy with it,the only reason I was thinking about changing these injectors as there are. 4 for. 80 quid which. I thought was cheap

The problem with second hand injectors is they wear out.
You can help them last longer by using a diesel treatment. They don't last forever though. Second hand are a complete unknown and could well be worse than you already have.

Just a bit of advice on removing injectors, soak them every day for at least a week in WD, and i mean soak as they can be a pain to get out. People have been known to crack the head. Hope this helps
