Just been to fetch all the parts for my oil change and the sump plug has two washers with it , a nylon one and a metal one with a little rubber insert . I did query this but was told it was the right one ,I thought it had a copper one ?

I have brought them now I will know better next time:rolleyes: just as a matter of interest any idea what is the nylon one for ? on the back of the pack were it says fitment it is all for ford .I did ring them but they say I have the right one ,I should of checked the last time I changed the oil but tbh I used the old one . So they don't use copper washers any more now

Every brand of oil filter I’ve tried has come with a copper washer that’s too small.I just flatten the old one off with some sandpaper and put it back on.

Not one to revive an old thread i thought i would just post an update both sump washers leak , when i changed the old washer IIRC it was a metal washer so it looks as if i will have to get one of them

We used this type of sump plug washer when I worked for Citroen.

I now use it on everything with a 12 or 14mm thread.
It doesn't leak, doesn't need to be wound up very tight and is readily available at your local Halfrauds.

I used that type first and it didnt seal then the nylon one and that is still weeping, may be i will have to get a metal one never used that type before the ones i have used have always been copper

The rubber lined seal you pictured earlier in the thread isn't the same as the one I've pictured. The one I use has a rubber seal that is larger than the steel spacer washer it's bonded too. This is rubber is firmly pinched between the sump and plug to effect the seal.
Trust me, they don't leak. ;)
