Hello all, Could someone with knowledge on these engines give me a bit of advice on the situation we have at the minute.

The pulley circled in the picture started a little whistle last night at engine speeds above 1500rpm. I sprayed the pulley with some penetrating oil and the sound died instantly and hasn't returned, however I noticed in the cold light of day that there seems to be some very minor lateral movement on the pulley, which makes me think the bearing is in trouble. It's nice and quiet at all speeds now but I don't want it throwing the belt at high speed.

Can't find anything in the Haynes book of lies referring to this pulley and I can't see how to get the pulley off once the belt is off.

Anyone had this trouble, or could anyone offer (helpful) advice (i.e. not to go and burn it...)? :D

check the belt. had a similar noise with mine, give me a right scare because the water pump is a right nightmare to do apparently.

spoke to my local independent (top bunch), he said don't panic just yet, lets have a look.

turns out the ribbed belt had shredded a couple of the ribs off so wasn't sitting right.

new belt fitted, all well and good.

good luck (not too far from you)

Thanks gents, waterpump it is then. Will have a look. I suspect the belt is in need of replacement and have both on the to do list. I'll see if i can get new belts on it and hope it sorts the problem.

With hindsight i probably should've sprayed the belt first with some belt-ease to rule that out...

Cheers again.

the water pumps are a night mare to do but if you are going to do it why not change all the belts while doing it i did and you can save time and money in doing the job again
