Hi i have a freelander TD4 2004 that has been having problems for a while and i am just wondering if anyone can help me. When i start it it turns over for a while before it actually starts and then when it does start if puffs out loads of white smoke. This has been going on for a while at first i was told it was my fuel pump which is over the back wheel. This was changed and everything was ok for a few days then it started again. I have been to many garages and had many things replaced....4 new fuel pumps (the one over the back wheel) a new turbo, 4 new injectors, 4 new glow plugs, the high pressure fuel pump in the engine, solenoids, lots of sensors, filters and re wiring. starter motor, one garage even changed the clutch?? can anyone help me with this.

i hope clutch and turbo and several fuel pumps were for other issues ,have you had a compression test done, does it turn over fast enough

Nope they were done for this problem. It does turn over fast enough it just does it for a while before it starts and then it puffs out white smoke, last time it was doing it it just turned over for longer each time until it wouldn't start at all. just got it back from the garage yesterday and it has had injectors and new high pressure pump plus filters and was great yesterday i thought we had finally got to the bottom of it but it has started again today. The garage has said they are going to change the other pump over the rear wheel again. Not sure if i have had a compression test but i will find out

This morning it was damp but it seems to be if its been stood for a few hours. If i nip shopping it will start great on the way home
