Can anyone tell me what size torx bits to use to undo the filler and drain plugs on my td4 manual gearbox?
thanks grayo! are both filler and drain the same size - 8mm?
Can top bung be reached from above.
Is there enough room to change the gearbox oil whilst the car is on the ground?
Or do I need to be inventive and get the car up off the road?
I realise that the car must be level when refilling.
HiIt's possible to change the box oil with the car on the ground.
The oil containers usually have a pipe in the lid. If you have a larger pipe the right size you can jam it on and use that to fill the gearbox, then just swap lids when the first is empty. I have a lid in the garage somewhere with the pipe already jammed on.Happy to say screwdriver and hammer got the turn going and got it out.
As an aside a Sealy AK54 oil syringe is the perfect tool to refill the box - would have been a nightmare without.
