Hi gang.
I have tried my best to search for this answer but I can't find it.
Is the 1st gear switch the same part number as the reverse gear switch on the Getrag gearbox?

I finally found the 1st gear switch on the gearbox yesterday and after a short while the cable and connector, carefully and deliberately tucked behind some piping. I suppose there are a few reasons why it might be disconnected and I haven't driven the thing since i reconnected it, but I expect it has been done to hide a fault with the switch.

So, are they the same part or do they have different part numbers? Does anyone know what that part number is?

Thanks for your help.

I am still trawling through RAVE and if I find the answer first, I'll post it up here, in case anyone else has the same idiot question as me.

It may have been disconnected if the gearbox has been removed, and forgotten to reconnect. I assume it's only needed for hill descent control

I reconnected it and it works fine.

If anyone cares, with this disconnected, the amber HDC warning light would come on after driving over 30s in 1st gear (disabling the system), then remain on for a few days/starts before resetting.

Presumably the ECU knows when the switch should be active: if you are doing approx Speed X at RPM Y you must be in 1st.

Problem solved.
