Help.....

TD4 (Manual) 02 Plate - 80k miles

Recently broke down on the M25  - towed to garage and found to be broken fuel pump, replaced and serviced at the same time! - things have been fine until recently....

When cruising at 80 - 90 it would seem that there is some starvation of fuel as goes lumpy and then engine light comes on and loss of power. car will accelerate very slowly in all gears but the umph has gone and hills become a worrying sight.....

When car is stopped and engine turned off and left a few minutes when starting the engine all is fine and light goes out and power is back fully....
Also when starting the car sometimes it takes a longer to turn over and a pump of the accelerator to get started....

Have taken car back to garage (non LR) and they have tested but no history faults found on the ecu memory.. and typically problem did not occur whilst the car was with them. they are a bit stumped.

I have thrown it around in all gears but only seems to happen in 5th when accelerating above 75.....

I have read with interest most of the posts relating to power problems but they are slightly different..

Can anybody offer a glimmer of hope....

Many Thanks

Andy

If the engine warning light has been on, there should be a fault code logged. So maybe the garage's diagnostic equipment is not fully compatible. (Diesels prior to 2004 aren't fully EOBD compliant and generic code readers will report 'no codes' when there are some.)

It could be:-
Fuel rail pressure sensor
Clogged microfilter in the high pressure pump inlet.
Gunge in the HP pump pressure regulator. (recently found on a Rover 75 and thought to be caused by waxing of fuel as the engine had been stood for 6months)
Fuel pressure from the low pressure pumps too low.

Its most likely a fuel supply problem somewhere but you need to check for fault codes next time the warning light comes on. There will be some.
