I removed the gearbox and changed the clutch on this car on axle stands with IRD in situ but loosened to access concealed bolt behind it, the job can be done this way but to me I found it very awkward and hard work also time consuming.
Found out gearbox was faulty after re- assembly so had to remove gearbox for a second time. This time I still left engine in situ but removed the crossmember, IRD unit and done the job in quarter of the time, so much easier.
My opinion is if I have to remove this gearbox again I would certainly opt for the second option.
