TD4 Forward facing rear seat install in 300TDI

Hello,

looking for some information on how to install 2010 TD4 forward facing seats (see photo) in my 1996 300TDI 110. The seats have all the hardware and fittings original to the TD4. Can these simply be installed in place of the current inward facing bench seats or are there any modifications that must first be made?

Although I am not an expert by any means I believe the wheel box in the tub is a different shape to allow these to fit. I believe There are also additional strengthening pieces on the floor of the tub. It is not as straight forward as just removing the old ones and vomiting these ones in Unfortunately.

There's a chamfer in the top corner of the wheel boxes to allow the seats to fit and still leave a gap so you can get in and out (if you're skinny). In an older vehicle you end up with little to no space between the seats so you can't get out without folding one seat up. This is a major safety issue as your rear passengers then can't rapidly vacate the vehicle in an emergency.

So seating capacity is reduced, and most retrofits are actually quite dangerous. Certainly not an upgrade and the only reason they exist is because the side-facing benches weren't allowed on new builds after 2006.

A better option if you must have these seats is to fit them facing astern. The passengers can then easily jump in and out via the rear door.

An easier option is to find a pair of the old style Exmoor trim forward racing seats. These can be fitted without significant mods, and will only require some strengthening to mount the seats safely. I have a pair fitted, they're useful.
