Hi All,

My 25000mile 55 plate TD4 has a hesitation / flat spot whilst pulling away. It normally happens after I've been driving at 60ish for 15 - 20 minutes. The problem feels like there is no power at all - when releasing the clutch, the revs drop off severely. It's possible to rev to 1700 and pull away, but this is not an ideal solution.

It's been like this since I got it when it had done 15000 miles.

The dealers have had it four times, and have updated ("downloaded?") the software to the version with the EGR problem resolved and changed the MAF sensor - all to no avail. They seem fixated on the fact their test system does not show a fault.

I'm beginning to think they don't believe there is a fault, as they've asked me to leave it with them for a few days so they can try and get the fault to show on the test system. (Though it's been tested four times already)

I know a few people here had a similar issue. Has anybody had any success in resolving the problem?

Cheers,
--Graeme

Thanks Mondo,

I should have added it's still under warranty, and I'm not keen on messing around with it 'cause if the dealers can't resolve the issue, they're getting it back!

Cheers,

I've got the same problem with mine ('04 TD4, 28000 miles). It's booked in at the dealers on Thursday, so I'll let you know how I get on.

My first guess is the MAF sensor, as it matches (exactly) the symptoms of a failing MAF (see roverron!).... are you sure they changed it and didn't just say they did?!?!

Time To Phone Roverron

Try unpluggin the maf sensor see if that makes any improvement

Try to unplug it as suggested my mondo. If there is a difference it is more probably the MAF (which was, said but not done, replaced)

Thanks all for the advice. When they replaced the MAF sensor, I turned up to collect it as they were finishing the job, so I guess it was done.

The really annoying bit is the problem only happens intermittently and when it does, sometimes it just loses power, sometimes it feels normal as the clutch is released then all the power disappears for about half a second, then all comes back again.

Does it still sound like the MAF sensor?

There's also a very occasional power fluctuation when steady at 2000rpm, but I don't know if this is related.

Cheers,

no this is summit else. . .the maf is a loss of power issue, yours sounds like er high pressue pump problem, ope ya git it sorted. . . .:)

new you two did pictures un war rockets, but didnt know you was that close. . . .:D

Here duplicate(corrected) version of the first input, too many typing errors it had.

Hope this clears all the possible questions that arose due to the first input ???:) :) :) :)

And in view of your later input it almost rules the MAF problem out, sorry.

Just picked my car up.... they changed the MAF sensor and the hesitation is now history :)
