Ok changing the alternater [pig of a job] but need a bit of help, need to replace the belts at same time, well i had a spanner that was a long reach 24mm i think slight off set last time i replaced them but be dammed if i can find it [think i lent it out] anyhows been trying to buy one and cannot source it and i dont want to buy one to find out its no good and need to get this job outa the way as i have important work to do on ma rockit :) can any one help . . . . . .Ming the userless

The Halfords professional range 24mm spanner is perfect. So there. ;)
yep thats the one and yes friggin Porky had it . . . .got the belts off got the compessor off and tied up , but it aint stopped raining so it will all have to wait ,the heinz manwell is useless for this job ,if i can get some pics might do a write up on this job as its a reet pig to do outside in the rain an an an . . . . .i'm orft ta pub

I gotta take mine off some time soon, so I can access the rear bolt of the tensioner so I can replace it. The undertray, bottom water pipe, AC pump and alternator have to come off first. The belt is the easy bit in comparison!! Not a technically difficult job, just a PITA. Especially in the wind and rain...

ok update . . . . .yesterday in the wet un rain  i got the alternator on ,just cut the main aux belt as I'm replacing both of them ,the big belt was in a reet mess reason being twas the old alternator had the front bearing goosed hence the smoke i think , any how you really do have to think what your doing regarding this job its easy to feck up the small electrical connectors on alternator so disconnect before you lower and tie up that ac compressor . . . .any-hows had to stop as it lashed it down, will continue when better weather :)

Good to know... Did you have to remove the water pipe and undertray from underneath?
of course , jack up front drivers side as high as you can take wheel orft secure all safe with axle stands [this is quite a heavy motor so i double chock] take off side panel, under tray undo part front sub mount , then undo belts then water pipe 3x 10mm bolts then ac compressor [tie it up all safe] then ac mount 4x 10mm and put to one side , dissconect - ve [neg] on battery ,undo alternator large conection 1x 13mm nut ,and diss- connect small ac plug [need a small screw driver to lift plastic retainer and pull at same time], undo dip stick top bolt 1x13mm keep safe , move dip stick to the right this helps clearance, undo top 13mm bolt on top of Alt 13mm socket [this wont clear as there is not enough room ] so finnish by hand or open spanner , undo bottom 10mmbolt use a ratchet ring spanner or struggle, undo last 13mm bolt ,now Alt is free jiggle with pipes from AC and it will come out and dont loose that top bolt . . . . .:D easy

Sounds good... come and do mine? ;)
:) :) :) All finnished today and test run all good , joking aside though its a real pig of a job that alternator , can remember doing motors years ago and starters and alternators and belts were simple jobs now you have to halve dissmatle the motor first . . . . . .
