Hi,
I have a Freelander 1, which has started causing me some issues.

When I'm cruising along at 2 - 2.5k rpm in 5th gear on level group,. all is fine, but when I go up an incline, then the engine warning light comes on. If I ease off, and drop to 4th gear, when the revs get to about 2K or less, the light goes out.

The doesn't appear to be any other symptom, no strange noises or anything, but this is disconcerting,

Anyone got any ideas where to start looking ?

Cheers

I'd take a guess that either your MAP sensor (left hand side of manifold) is duff or dieing. Or the low pressure fuel pump (rear wheel arch) is on its way out.
But as your engine light came on, you should have some fault codes stored if you have access to a reader.

Cheers Mike, I'll have a butchers. I had it on a cheepo reader, but no faults. Generally goes off really fast, as I ease off :)

David, as far as I know, there are no mods. I haven't noticed any.

Gogadget, not sure, it all seems fine. once I ease off and get the light off, if everything goes level, I can easily get up to 70/80 with out issue

hmm, like I said, nothing feels wrong with it, its just the light, which obviously means that something isn't right :), I'll have a look at the lp pump.

cheers

The only way to be sure is to drive it while live data is being displaced on some kind of reader. You need to monitor the low pressure pump pressure and the air flow rate from MAF. The LP pressure should hold above 320Kpa while going uphill, full throttle. The air flow measured should be progressive with throttle pedal position and engine speed.
