Two reasons I bought the Freelander:
1) It was cheaper than winter wheels and tyres for my other car; and
2) I wanted to get back to "fun" off-road and green laning after taking it far too easy in a Disco3
Well next year I get to do (2) in spades as I will be taking part in the H4H 4x4 European Rally in aid of Help for Heroes in my 54-plate Td4. I took part in 2010 in my Disco and want to have another go at raising some £££ for those who put their lives on the line in our names.
Already have a lift kit coming from Simon (SES) and have fitted a low-profile straight through rear box and some larger tyres, so ground clearance is sorted. I've a pile of signwriters vinyl coming to tart it up (see image) and plan to fit dual battery system so I can run a laptop, fridge and a few other bits and bobs for the two weeks we'll be living out of the car.
Anyone else undertaken anything like this in a Freelander have any tips to offer? And any suggestions on spares to take? VCU has just been done, as have prop bearings, and the LP fuel pump is due for change next month.
If anyone is interested in reading about the rally there are links on my team facebook page:
