Hi, I’ve a problem with the tailgate not locking on FL2 2009, It closes but then will unlock after a few seconds ... intermittent problem .. but now worse this week. any advice appreciated .. cheers Mike

That's an odd one.
Does it unlock when you are moving, or only when stationery?
Have you had any errors codes read?

Hi
No error codes display in dash just Tailgate Open
It happens when I close tailgate and if I’m quick and get in I can lock central locking on the dash switch them it stays closed,
Thought it might be water ingress in switch ?
Cheers
Mike

I meant trouble codes with a suitable diagnostic reader.

The Freelander 2 is basically completely software driven, having over 20 control modules dotted about the vehicle.

So if anything goes wrong with the electronic system, a code read is the first thing to be done.

However it does sound like it could possibly be a faulty microswitch in the tail door handle.

Hi, not able to contribute a solution but am also having similar problem on my 2009 FL2 with tailgate not wanting to lock for sometime - it is worse in cold weather like now.

I've not had it through a diagnostic machine, but have replaced the boot lid switch (genuine LR replacement) in the summer. However, this doesn't seem to have solved the problem.

What I've been doing to make sure the car locks lately is to apply the pressure by hand on the tailgate (where the latch is) and remote lock it at the same time.

But for the last 3 days, this trick didn't work - as soon as I withdrew my hand, the tailgate unlocked itself immediately thereby setting off the alarm.

I noted that when applying the hand pressure, there was a faint clicking sound from the latch, and the same clicking sound could be heard when I withdraw my hand.

Do you think it's the solenoid/actuator in the latch is the problem, and replacing it is the next step (part no LR014184)?

Appreciate any help/thoughts from the community.

The lock is only released when power is applied by the CJB. So failing to latch up is most likely to be a mechanical issue with the lock assembly.
Replacing the lock assembly should solve the issue.

I'll give this a go and will report back when done. Thank you.

Happy to report back that by changing the lock assembly (after market) part no LR014184 from the auction site for £22.50 on my FL2 2009 seemed to have worked i.e. boot now locked.
I have also replaced the tailgate switch previously, but that didn't solve the problem for me.
