Hi all

I have an 05 plate TD4 5 door Sport. I bought it in November last year.

There is a problem with the tailgate window. When driving it either dislodges or a sensor thinks it does (if I stop the car and look at the window I cannot see any evidence of it being lower than it was when last locked and stationary). If I go over a bump it can either dislodge or rectify itself - the red door-open light goes on and off throughout each driver. If I use the window switch the whole window lowers fully and I have to, pressing the switch, manually physically move the window back in place. It's knackered, basically.

I can live with this but it is annoying. The previous owner had removed the interior light bulbs which I replaced today - and they go on every time the window dislodges.

I had a new battery installed in January. This led to the window going right down and having to be manually pulled up again.

Any ideas? Would it just be easier to buy a second hand tailgate from a scrapyard and start over?!

An intro and then a search of the Freelander section will help, you are not the first to own a Freelander and yours is not the first to have this problem.

The rear window is supposed to go right down when the battery is reconnected. Lifting the window fully up, using the dash switch is part of the calibration procedure.

Sounds like you have a dodgy door switch, maybe with a broken spring.

Absolutely no need to replace the complete rear door.

Loads of threads here about boot door issues, do a quick search and read as much as you can but like Nodge says it probably needs a replacement lock mechanism as the micro-switch is in it. Also check the handle is nice and springy as it's common for the springs to rust away.
